Non superwash, botanically dyed

Minimally processed, non superwash sport weight yarn. Spun at Canada's oldest woolen mill, then naturally dyed. My favorite base (but don't tell the others...)

This minimally processed yarn is sourced from small flocks and farms.  It is made from medium wool breeds such as Corriedale, Romney, Cheviot and Bluefaced.  Medium wools will not be as soft as superfine Merino, because the scales are larger. Some people may not want to wear this directly against their skin. However, it makes for a light but warm knitted fabric. I almost always wear a light tee shirt under all my sweaters, merino or not, and do not find this Meadow Rustic Sport "prickly” at all. Because of its minimally processed nature, you will occasionally find bits of vegetable matter.

Because it's a "lofty" yarn, especially after washing, in my experience Meadow accommodates to multiple gauges-fingering to DK.

Moon and Hazy are natural, undyed wool colors. Dawn, Dusk and Midnight are not naturally dyed; they are dyed by the mill. However, I often overdye them with natural dyes.

Pattern suggestions:

Missoni Accomplished pullover

Forestland Pullover

Tearmann Shawl

Lichen Shawl

Minor bleeding may occur on first wash. Each skein is unique, purchase multi-skein projects together & alternate rows.

Colors are shown as accurately as possible but Monitors will vary.

You can prolong the life of all textiles and colors by washing by hand in cool water and avoiding exposure to strong, direct, prolonged light. For yarn, air drying on a flat surface will prevent stretching and sagging. A neutral wool wash is recommended. I currently use non scented Eucalan.

New Favorite Yarn

Ive been on a purchasing kick this season, preparing for a long winter of wooly knitting. Ive begun knitting with a number of fibers from a number of brands and there are 2 that stand out as my absolute favorites, and this yarn is one of them. The yarn is rustic in the most perfect way. For me it is next to skin wearable, coily, springy, and textured in the hank, it did take some coercion to cake up, but once the yarn and I agreed that it would be a cake, its been smooth sailing. The yarn so far has been exceptional for colorwork - long floats will felt up nicely and stay secure, but its no so easily felted that the yarn catches on itself. The midnight orchid color did bleed at first and transfer to my skin, so I worried at first that I had made an error winding it without a pre-wash, but my gauge square with colorwork with pinky tan came out just fine - I used a dye catcher in case but it caught very little / no color. I used a dry dye catcher to squeeze the water out of the gauge square and that one did catch some color. I expect some skin staining when my mittens are done at first but I think itll be minor.

The yarn is a joy to work with, feels wonderful in the hand, and gives a phenomenal result. Couldnt be more pleased. I did find that for ribbing I needed to go to a 2mm needle - maybe even 1.75mm (held single). The band says this could knit up as a dk but in my experience with the 2 skeins I purchased its substantially smaller, even wet blocked.

Im just looking now for an excuse to purchase more!

So much texture ❤️

I received kind and thoughtful direction and consideration on my purchase and I am excited to think of Sharon and her process while I work up my project.
