100% Shaniko Wool: U.S. grown Merino and Merino/Rambouillet, milled in North Carolina

Fingering weight, 450 yds100 grams

A soft 3 ply yarn, that provides excellent stitch definition.  Next-to-skin soft with a slight halo that makes sweaters and accessories that are a joy to wear. Great for color work!

Naturally dyed for rich, clear colors

Nonsuperwash

NOTE:  in some of these skeins, the strands of yarn are slightly stuck to each other. They pull apart easily but make a little “zip” sound doing so. The colors are beautiful, and this yarn is super soft. But you save 20% due to the sticky issue. Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

About Shaniko Wool:

Shaniko Wool Company is a branded and certified program of American Merino wool. The wool comes from Merino and Merino/Rambouillet sheep raised in the Great Basin Region of the American West.

Shaniko Wool Company is the first U.S. Farm Group to supply certified wool under the Responsible Wool Standard (RWS). Unique benefits of this global standard for wool:

  • Full traceability
  • Annual third-party audits of land management and animal husbandry practices

Shaniko Wool Company currently includes 10 American West sheep producers, all audited and certified under the RWS. In addition to stringent guidelines covering the humane treatment of sheep, the RWS provides full traceability of wool and sets strict standards for worker welfare and careful land management practices that ensure the continued sustainability of the ranges where sheep are raised.

Minor bleeding may occur on first wash. Each skein is unique, purchase multi-skein projects together & alternate rows. Colors are shown as accurately as possible but Monitors will vary.

You can prolong the life of all textiles and colors by washing by hand in cool water and avoiding exposure to strong, direct, prolonged light. For yarn, air drying on a flat surface will prevent stretching and sagging. A neutral wool wash is recommended. I currently use non scented Eucalan or Orvus.
